Edit in the Studio
Trim, move, split, and retype your video by hand, with no credits used.
Under the preview sits the Studio: a multi-track timeline of your video, plus an inspector for whatever you select. Use it for the small fixes that do not need the agent: a scene that runs a beat too long, a clip in the wrong place, a typo in a headline.
Every hand edit is saved at once as a new version of the project. It uses no credits and no agent turn.
Not the Studio plan
The Studio editor is part of every plan. You need edit access to the project; people with view-only access can watch but not edit.
The timeline
| Part | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Scene ruler | The scenes of your video, named after the storyboard |
| Tracks | One track per layer: scenes, backdrops, voiceover, music, footage |
| Playhead | The current moment, in sync with the preview. Click or drag the ruler to move it |
| Waveforms | Audio clips show their waveform, so you can see where the voice speaks |
The toolbar above the tracks has play, undo and redo, split, delete, Select on canvas, snapping, ripple, and zoom. Fit shows the whole video; the zoom buttons go in up to 16×. Drag the top edge of the panel to make it taller or shorter, or hide it to give the preview more room.
Edit clips
- Move a clip by dragging it. Its animations move with it.
- Trim a clip by dragging its left or right edge.
- Split a clip at the playhead with Split at playhead or S. Only image, video, and audio clips split directly.
- Delete a clip with Delete or ⌫.
- Select several clips with Shift-click, then drag any of them to move them together or delete them at once.
Snap (on by default, N to toggle) lines clips up with other clips and the playhead. Ripple (off by default) makes later clips on the same track follow when you move or trim a clip.
Edit scenes
The edge between two scenes on the ruler is a cut.
- Drag an edge to move the cut. One scene gets longer, the next gets shorter, and the video keeps its length, so music and voiceover stay in place.
- Hold ⌥ while dragging to change the scene's length instead. Later scenes move with it and the video gets longer or shorter. Dragging the end of the last scene always changes the video's length.
A hint above the cut tells you which of the two is happening. For exact values, select a scene and type a Length in the inspector, or use Move earlier, Move later, and Delete scene.
The inspector
The inspector edits whatever you selected:
| Selection | What you can change |
|---|---|
| Clip | In, Duration, Out, and Volume for audio and video clips. Split or delete it |
| Scene | Length, its position (Move earlier / Move later), or delete it |
| Element on the canvas | Text, position, scale, and rotation (see below) |
| Whole video (nothing selected) | Length and FPS. Size is shown for reference |
The aspect ratio is not edited here. Ask for it in chat, for example "switch to 9:16".
Select and edit elements
To edit something on the canvas itself, press Select in the player bar under the preview (or Select on canvas in the Studio, or V when the timeline is focused). Then click an element:
- Drag the box to move it.
- Drag the corner to resize it.
- Drag the round handle on top to rotate it.
- Double-click text, or use the Text field, to retype it.
You can also type exact X, Y, Scale, and Rotate values in the Edit directly card. Changes show live and are saved when you let go or leave the field. The card confirms with Your edit · saved, no credits used. Clicking another element switches the selection, and the element's clip is highlighted on the timeline.
Some elements cannot be edited directly, for example text split into separately styled pieces. The card says so. Describe the change in the Ask the agent box under it instead. You can also drag on the canvas to mark an area for the agent. See Quick edits.
When an edit needs a decision
Some edits cannot be done safely by hand. The Studio then explains why, instead of guessing:
- Move anyway appears when part of the video's animation, such as a camera move, is built in code. That animation stays where it is if you move the clip. Press Move anyway to move it regardless, or ask the agent to move everything together.
- Ask the agent appears when the timing cannot be changed by hand, for example a clip that starts relative to another clip. It puts a request for the change in the composer.
Reference in chat
Select a clip, scene, or element and press Reference in chat. A chip such as [Clip «Light follows the curve» #s3 0:08.5–0:12.4] is added to the composer, so the agent knows exactly what "make this slower" means.
Undo and redo
⌘ Z undoes your last hand edit and ⌘ Shift Z redoes it. An undo is saved as a new version too, so nothing is lost.
While the agent is working
Hand edits wait while a build runs, so they never collide with the agent:
- Element edits are held in the tab, up to 20 of them, and applied when the build finishes.
- Timing edits on the timeline are not taken during a build. The Studio shows Timing changes wait until the agent finishes.
The agent sees your hand edits on its next turn and keeps them unless you ask for something else.
After an edit
The preview reloads with the new version and opens paused on the same frame, so you can check the change right away. When the preview reloads during a build, a paused or scrubbed playhead also stays where you left it.
